「えっ、この英文どこが変なの?」:Japanized English?

222:【ごはんよ~!】です。
Dinner’s ready! (ご飯よ~!)すると、Kenちゃんが、:I’m starved! I skipped lunch today. (おなかペコペコだよ。昼ごはん抜きだったんだ)…ここまでは、よくある英会話ですね。

Kenちゃんは雪合戦:snowball fightとcomputer gamesに夢中だったようです。「おなかがグーグー鳴ってる」なら ”My stomach is growling. ” skipは「抜く、とばす」という意味です。食事には冠詞をつけないのが普通です。have breakfast, have dinner …のように。
ただし、「軽い食事」など形容詞をつける場合にはaが入りますよ。a light meal のように。「軽い食事をとった」:I had a light meal.
<おまけの“English Quiz”>
次の3つの単語はすべて「お手洗い」のことですが、実は使い方に違いがあります。では、基本的に使わない方がいいのはどの単語でしょう?3 wordsを通して、2回言いますね。
① toilet ② restroom ③ bathroom …
The answer is … ① ! … toilet の元々の意味は「便器」です。「便器はどこですか?」と聞かれたら驚いてしまいますよね。 ② restroom は「休憩室」。デパートやレストランなど公共の場所にあるものです。家庭では使いません。 ③ bathroom は「洗面所」。家庭やホテルの個室などで使います。ほかに公共施設の表示でよく見るlavatoryもありますが、日常的にはあまり使われていません。

間違いの英文では、「電話機をください。」になりますね。

英文中、英検2級レベル以上の語彙や表現には、* (星印)で注釈をつけています。
In this blog, Yoshy adds * (asterisk) at the vocabulary and expressions whose level are Eiken 2nd and over, and writes its explanation.
