「エスイーオー:SEOって何の略?」What does SEO stand for?

Let’s try to think this vocabulary or expression we most Japanese are hard to make out, shall we?

Hachi’s life has been sympathized with by many Japanese, even if they don’t like dogs, I think.

When I turned on TV just before LL evening lessons on Wednesday, September 30th, Hachi, the Loyal Dog was on NHK program, Historia. Although I was able to watch only around half an hour, I became glued to the program. It reminds me of a movie, “Hachi” starring Richard Gere.

2015年度LL スピーチコンテストの課題文の一つとして、全生徒に紹介いたしました。改めてその英文を再確認したくなりました。以下、一部をご紹介。「忠犬ハチ公」の全文は、HERE:こをクリックなさってください。最下部にございます。

Actually I introduced Hachi to all LL-students as one of the recitations of LL Speech Contest in 2015; now I’d like to do again here. The recitation is available on the bottom site above. I copy part of it under.

The English story is from Foundation Japan LL Education Center and the translation is by Yoshy (Yoshiaki Endo).

In 1924, Mr. Hidesaburo Ueno was a professor at the University of Tokyo. He loved dogs very much, so he got an Akita puppy. It was two months old. He named it Hachiko.

The professor and Hachiko became good friends. Each morning, they went to Shibuya Station together. Then, the professor went to work by train. Every evening, they played and ate dinner together.

One night, Hachiko was waiting, but the professor didn’t return. Hachiko waited until late at night. He didn’t know that the professor had died.

Hachiko’s popularity grew and the station staff made a special statue of him. Sadly, shortly after that, Hachiko died in 1935 at age 11.

Now, there are also other statues of Hachiko in Japan, in America and at the University of Tokyo together with the professor.

This poor translation into English is for both brushing up Yoshy’s proficiency and telling updates to my foreign friends. Yoshy’s several foreign friends are always checking this blog; wrong expressions found, an article of “Correction” has been uploaded here.

英文中、英検2級レベル以上の語彙や表現には、* (星印)で注釈をつけています。

In this blog, Yoshy adds * (asterisk) at the vocabulary and expressions whose level are Eiken 2nd and over, and writes its explanation.
